C: Honey and Char


Honey ducked into the Mother's Den with the leaf of water. She nudged it toward Lady. “Take a drink, if you can,” she whispered.

Char stood outside, toward the middle of camp, trying to send soothig thoughts to Lady.

“Are these normal wolves, or do they have powers like us?” he barked to anyone who could answer.

Sugar jumped into the den with them and crouched next to Lady. 

Ash stopped and lifted his head. He sighed in relief. "If they caught us, they do have powers. They wouldn't have known that we do. But it's ok now. Sugar scared them off. They know we have powers now."

Despair growled softly. "They won't be gone long. Honey and Sugar, you both come with me. Patrol the borders, and if they're back, howl." Then she turned. "Greta, you stay here. Help Lady with the pups. The rest of you, guard the camp!"

Lady lapped at the water next to her feebly. Another spasm ran through her. "I think they're coming," She croaked.

"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god.

Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.”

Sugar nodded and stood up. She nuzzled Lady before she left. "Stay strong" she murmured. 

Ash leapt in front of Despair. "Don't go patrol the west side of the territory. That's where they are. Bad things will happen if you even go near."

Greta nodded and sat down next to Lady, murmuring encouraging words to the other dog. Teri jumped up and started heading towards the edge of camp. Being careful to follow Ash's advice and avoid the west side, he watched and listened for any sign of enemies.

Despair steeled her nerves. "I'll go check on the west side, then loop by the south. Why don't you guys check out the north and south? Meet me by the that little pond that forms when it rains a lot, near the north border." 

Lady howled in pain. "Greta, please help! I think the first one is stuck! " She bit her tongue, trying hard not to scream, and drew blood. "Please." She whimpered. Her vision became fuzzy, and she felt her life draining away. She knew of dogs whose pups got stuck. The mom and tbe babies all died.

C - Greta

Greta went closer to Lady, and seeing the pup's head, she concentrated hard and started slowly pulling with her power, careful not to hurt the puppyin any way. At the same time, she called for Despair. "Should Teri come over here in case we need him? Or do you think he would be more help with patrolling?" she asked. Greta thought the puppy was now able to come out on its own, so she stopped and looked at Lady, asking, "Will you be okay now?"

Ash growled directly at despair. "Didn't I just say DON'T patrol the west side?" He continued to growl and waited for an answer. 

Sugar nodded. "Trust him" she said gently, starting towards the camp entrance.

"Teri can stay here. Greta, why don't you continue to help Lady? I think she's having a hard time." Despair turned to Ash. "I need to check the west side, okay? I need to protect my pack." She raised her head proudly and raced toward the camp entrance. 

Lady pushed, and the first pup slithered out. Another spasm ran through her and she could feel the second one coming. "Greta......" she whispered.
