It could become unfair if a newbie simply asked a more extablished player to borrow a 'best' symurgh for the duration of the contest. There would need to be guidelines.
If you are suggesting an acutal event and not a player giving a kami then this is not the place to post it. You need to put it into suggestions. This is a place for real contests.
You need story, lore, why, when, how. A beastlord having the power to take any kami desired simply because they have a good symurgh doesnt sound productive to the history of europa nor realistic. The kamis came for specific reasons and through specific methods. They don't sit on a shelf somewhere waiting to be chosen.
And you also need answers to the questions asked above. I also want to know what defines 'best'.
You need to make your suggestion fuller, not just toss out an idea and leave the room.
By the time the event is made, you wouldnt be a new player anymore. If you want a kami wait for the next event. In the meantime build up a powerful army of strong pets to tackle any tasks thrown their way. Then youll be ready and able to get a kami, through hard work (and some sanity loss) like all the others.

Something similar to what you suggest are the pet exhibitions, which are competitions that would run for a week in which you enter your pets for the chance to win gold coins and double deviants. You've never seen one because they haven't run any recently, but they should start up again soon after the end of this Kami event. While you don't win a Kami, you definitely can win some rare and valuable pets.

I agree with Monues. A Kami is a special pet that needs to be earned. There are some pretty new players (Such as BlueeyedVulpix) that have earned some Kami fair and square. A newbie who can't do that shouldn't have a Kami event set aside for them that is so much easier.
Okay, BlueeyedVulpix isn't super new.

How about a task then? Like the "Carpo, the Kami of Autumn" thing. You could say things like, "Gather as many (blah) as you can" or "If you sell # (blah)" it's kinda like the Kami events... you're still trying to get it, to earn it
:)

Does the color matter or do the genes? at any rate I think youd like Coal. I bred her myself.

If the contest/event was only for newer players then it would be unfair to everyone else who has been on here for longer. Everyone gets the chance to win the kami's; even new players so it's only fair if everyone gets the chance to win them in future events.
I don't think having a best pet contest is the fairest way to win a kami either because more experienced players and players who have been playing for a long time will have more chance of winning.
I had only been playing for six weeks when I took part in my first kami event and I got all of the kami's on offer. If you put the time in then you can get them. I have only missed out on one kami since and that was the hopper kami but that was only because I had no internet when the event was taking place.
There are lots of people on here that help newer players get their first kami's when they have their own too. I personally think that anything like this; where some people are excluded from winning, would be unfair to those excluded.
I think it might be a good idea to have a chance to win the kami's from past events though. Maybe something like a monthly draw or they could re-do the past kami events.
