From Hell to Heaven

The most beautiful girl was sitting at her old and rotten table in the middle of a class while trying to remember her past. Since Acacia was a young girl all she knew was a horror house in her mind. That building was her home, the only safe place she could stay at, a school. A horrible boarding school where only the mean and unneeded children went.

But as unneeded she was the more imagination she had. She spent all of her free time drawing mythical creatures and writing long novels while studying more than hard for school. The unprincipled workers always stole things from the students and made strict rules. On the other hand a sweet old lady who has been working here her life long was so generous she did not steal instead she gave sweets to some kids.

The sun was already setting as Acacia got back from her afternoon classes. She settled herself on the window seal and began continuing her story. Until she got rudely interrupted by a loud roar. Her mind was thinking at light speed whereas her body froze. Something moved the curtains. Very slowly she tiptoed towards the decoration. On her way  she grabbed a very small but fine scroll. With a powerful pull she ripped open the curtain. The window was open. Nothing to be seen. In a panic she swung around getting ready for anything. Instead of a beast all there was to see was Mrs. Gertrude, the conductor of the school. “Oh my dear don´t tell me you saw another one of your beasts! Anyways right now I am not here to kick you out even if that would be my dream. GO TO BED!” her shrilled voice ran across the room. “Yyyeeess ma’m. As you wish.” whispered Acacia unsure of what to do.

As the sun finally rose and the girl woke up, another day began. Acacia as always went to the bathroom to wash herself. While cleaning her face she realised she had a little symbol on her hand. It looked something like this: Ω. She freaked out   because it meant life as she learned. Acacia rushed back to her room and observed one of her drawings. A drawing with an omega sign and a kami.

This represented one of her favourite dreams. The sound came

again. A roar with a bit of fear and surprise in it. From where

she knew this? She did not know it either. This time she fetched

the tiny document again and put on a special hat. This piece

of clothing was very important to her. Acacia did not know

why. Suddenly the sound got loud and bashed out the doors.

And there it was a beautiful orange cat with 50cm long whiskers

and eyes like no other. Peacefully she walked towards Acacia. The girl read out the scroll extremely loud

                                          When put to words

They do not feel the same.

When said out loud,

Come across as burned out flames-

They seem as somewhat distorted,

Not what You see inside,

Rather concealed and tamed,

The intensity not quite portrayed,

On the equivalent high tide.

As she said that the mysterious creature began to float and shine. Acacia felt tired for a second and fainted. The next thing she realised was that she was lying on a leaf bed in a very unusual forest. At first she did not see the little fairies flying around her body. It seemed as if they were guarding her. All of a sudden Kami the cat that she saw in her room came flying down. She said something to Acacia, “Don’t fear my kingdom. This is the most peaceful place on earth and you are welcome. Here is my present request. I heard you where unhappy staying at that gross empire ruled by the bad side. I looked through your things and recognised that you are a special one. Since we were missing a person in our town I thought you might want to become my princess. What do you say?”  offered the queen generously. Of course Acacia said yes so they made a huge ceremony, “And now on from this day ’til your last one you shall be called Princess Acacia!” as they said that the girl magically turned into the most beautiful kami in the world.

I'm writing a book... xD I'll post the first page here! ;)

Sipeta trotted down the stairs, trailing her hand along the wall. She had been woken up that morning by her father, who was currently snoring his head off on the couch. Tilting her ear toward the loud noise, she could imagine his mouth open and one of his arms splayed out to one side. Based off the details Kono had told her and the sounds coming from his mouth she painted a picture in her head of a middle-aged guy, in his 40s, with short gray hair and a mess of bristly hairs on his chin. He was about 6 foot, 4 inches and fairly athletic, but because of the way drool was dripping on the couch, the “strong guy” look was ruined.

Sipeta tried chuckling, the rest of her family did it when they were amused, but it came out as a baby-like gurgle. She sighed inwardly, her good mood dampened, and walked into the kitchen. Using her hands to navigate, Sipeta continued walking and stepped into the dog’s water bowl. She squeaked pathetically in defiance, not caring if her dad woke up. There was a crash, an “ouch!”, and then a loud laugh. Her twin must’ve set the trap and then hidden near something breakable. Sipeta grinned despite herself as her happy-go-lucky brother tromped over and swung his arm around her shoulders. “It was just a glass! I can fix it!” He said. He always bragged freely about his ability to fix things easily. She reached up and ruffled his brown, fluffy mop of hair, “Hey,” he protested feebly. “I just brushed it!” She shook her head slightly but, luckily for her, Kono didn’t notice.

Those prizes aren't worth it, but:

This woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she stayed by his bedside every single day. One of those days, he came to, and whispered for her to come closer.

She leaned in close, and heard him rasp,“You've always been there for me, in all my bad times. You were there when I was fired, You were there when my business failed, and when we lost the house. When my health was failing, you were there. And you know what?”

The wife leaned in closer, eyes filling with tears, and her heart with warmth. “What?”

“I think you're bad luck.”

Quotes:

I want you to listen to me very carefully, Harry. You're not a bad person. You're a very good person, who bad things have happened to. Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.

BTW, I do not have a tile yet. UPDATED!!

Prologue

I often wondered why people say things that aren't so. What's the point? Who cares? I learned later that it was their way of expressing themselves. I also wondered something that I never have found the answer to. If I could have one wish, what would it be? There are so many things to wish for, so many things to want in life, do any of them actually have priority? If only I’d been able to make up my mind… But let me start from the very beginning, when I was young and free.

Chapter One

“Melody!” My mother called.

I raced downstairs, my dusty yellow dress swishing across the stairs as I went. Whenever Mother called me, I was sure to find a treat in store. After all, we lived in an apartment above Mother’s bakery.

“Yes?” I asked her.

“I have something for you to taste, tell me what you think,” she handed me a small muffin with a orangey tint.

“What’s in it?” I asked her, even though I new she wouldn’t tell me ‘til I tried it.

“Try it,” she replied.

I lifted the sweet up to my mouth where I could smell it. It didn’t smell of anything familiar. I popped it into my mouth, it was delicious!!

“Sweet potato,” I said, smiling because I knew that I’d gotten it right. Then I added “it’s delicious!”

“I’m glad you like it.” Mother smiled, but she wasn’t smiling with her mouth, she was smiling with her eyes, like she always did. I then saw her pull on her apron and hurry down the hall and out of the kitchen.

I shot a glance at the clock. 7:30, time for her bakery to open. I walked up to my room, slowly, because of all the stairs. There are thirty-four stairs, I counted once, but it felt like a hundred and thirty-four stairs to me.

When I finally reached my room, I flung open the door, and cascading onto my bed. I was tired, you can’t blame me. I stared up at the ceiling, wondering things. I usually woke up at 7:00, said hi to my mom, and then fell asleep again at 7:35. Then I would wake up at 9:00, go about my day, and, after eating dinner, fall back asleep.

As I lay there, I bluntly thought, today is going to be one of those days. And really, you can’t blame me. How could I know what would await me when I woke up later?

Chapter Two

I was being shaken awake. I knew it, I could feel it.

“What?” I grumbled.

“Shhh, just get up and follow my instructions.” It was Stacey, Mother’s assistant. She runs the bakery when Mother is busy.

“Why?” I asked, staring at her.

There was a sound from downstairs. Like something large crashing to the ground. Stacey froze, then she was pulling me out of bed and racing me into my mothers room.

“Whatever I tell you to do, do it, do you understand?” I didn’t understand, not in the tiniest bit, but I just nodded.

She released her grip on me and led me to the top of the stairs.

“Count to 20, then run into the kitchen and hide under the cabinets, where you used to play pretend when you were little. Stay there until there is nobody around, then go to your Aunt’s house, you’ll be safe there.”

I was about to protest when Stacey raced down the stairs and whispered to me to start counting. I counted to 20. I tip-toed downstairs. I went to the kitchen and dashed under the cabinets. I waited.

When I was much younger, I had played there. I had pretending I was a princess that needed to be rescued. I pretended I was a mouse, waiting for the right moment before it ventured out for breadcrumbs. When I learned how to read, I would snatch a book and stay huddled up there until I turned the last page, no matter how late I was for dinner. But this was different. This was real. This was now.

I saw a pair of men’s boots. I heard whispering. Something fell to the ground. I stayed where I was. More shoes came into view. More talking, louder this time. I strained to hear them, but the only words I could make out were “Gone off…”, “were telling the truth?”, and “quite a few.”

I waited in silence until the shoes went out of view and the lights went dark, even then, I still waited under the cabinets. I remembered what Stacey had said about going to my Aunt’s house, I remembered that I’d promised to listen to her, but I didn’t want to. I was letting my curiosity get the better of me, and I knew it.

I snuck out form under the cabinets. On tip-toes I walked over to the sink. There was a broken flower pot in it. I looked down on the ground, I saw a dead bouquet of roses that my mother had put in the flower jar. I frowned. This was not good, whoever was making a mess of my mother’s kitchen was going to pay for it! They would pay down to every inch of dirt they’d tracked on the tiles. I sniffed the air. It no longer smelled of fresh bread and pastries, but of mud and plastic. I put my hand over my nose, something I’d never done in that kitchen before.

I walked towards the oven, staring at the pans and pastry cutters lying on the floor. I began to bend down in order to pick them up, and then I heard something.

“Well, well, well. Hello, little girl.” A menacing voice came echoing towards me, and a froze, and then spun around.

A Grand Day Out

The silver craft hovered in the air over the cornfield, as if waiting for something. No-one saw it, except for old Jack, working the combine half a mile away. He saw it descend out of the cloudless blue sky, pause for a while, then drop out of sight. He looked at the bottle of moonshine in his hand. "Jeez," he muttered to himself. "This stuff's stronger'n I thought" and he tossed the half-empty bottle out into the field.

Inside the craft, two aliens were considering their next move. Actually, no. They were arguing.

"Oh, come on, Brrlip, I wanna do a crop circle. Pleeeeease!"

"No Krssgy. I told you, we were coming for one of those two-footed mammal things."

"But you promised!"

"Did not!"

"Did so!"

Brrlip sighed. "Alright, alright, if it will get you off my back, do your stupid crop circle."

Krssgy gave a squeal of delight and took the controls of the vessel. It dipped and spun and zig-zagged so close to the ground that Brrlip started to feel nauseous. He rested his head in two of his hands while the other two hovered over the controls just in case.

After a few minutes Krssgy squealed again and accelerated the craft up to a hundred feet so she could get a good view of her creation. The corn was flattened in a complex arrangement of circles, lines and spirals. She snapped a picture of it. "I am so totally posting that to Spacebook."

"NOW can we go get a two-foot?" Brrlip said, checking the sensors. "There's one not far away, over there." He steered the craft towards the rumbling combine.

"Eww. That one's ugly," Krssgy remarked, wrinkling her proboscis. "Why are they all so... hairy?"

"Maybe their heads and faces are particularly susceptible to cold. Let's find out!" Brrlip slid over to the transporter console and a teleporter beam emerged from the underside of the craft. The bewildered farmer blinked out of existence and re-appeared a fraction of a second later, in the craft's cabin. He started to cry.

Brrlip rummaged through the supplies. "Quick, where's the med kit? Ah, there it is!" He opened a small steel box and took out an object that resembled a small steel syringe, except without a needle. He placed one end against old Jack's neck and pressed a button. The farmer fell immediately into unconsciousness.

Brrlip and Krssgy stared at him for a while.

"What now?"

"I dunno. What do you want to do with it?"

"I wanna look in its mind."

So they dragged him over to a scanner and put a device on his head that downloaded all his thoughts and memories. The two aliens watched the screen for a few minutes. "This is boring," Brrlip said. "It never does anything exciting."

"We could get a proper look," Krssgy suggested. "Open its head."

Brrlip shifted uncomfortably. "I... I don't know how..." he admitted.

Krssgy sighed. "Can we keep it as a pet?"

"Definitely not, it stinks."

They were interrupted by a bleep at the communication console. Brrlip went to check it and turned a delicate shade of pale blue. "Ohhhh no! My mom! She's coming to pick us up. Quick, put the two-foot back before she gets here."

The two of them rushed for the teleporter controls and beamed the old farmer back where he came from. Almost. They missed the combine by about ten yards and they forgot to take the mind-reading device off his head.

Krssgy gave Brrlip a smug look as she watched a larger spacecraft coming into atmosphere above them. "You are soooo grounded."

A Not-So-Normal Day

The day started out normal. I woke up, got ready for school, and got a ride to school from a friend. I get my books for my classes and head to my home room and say hi to Mrs. Smith, my home room teacher. That's when things started to be unusual. Suddenly, the ground started to freeze but the temperature stayed the same. Everyone but me panicked. That was a mistake on my part. I stayed in my seat with my feet on the ground while everyone else, including the teacher, was crouched on their desk. The ice started to spread up my feet, up to my knees, and finally stopping at my hips. I look at the ice and panic. "Help!" I shout. There is a blinding flash of light, and all the ice has melted. "What did you do?" the new guy, Kevin, asks worried. "I-I don't know." I say bewildered. Mrs. Smith cautiously gets off her desk and walks over to me. "Y-you are......an elemental" she says, amazed. "Wait WHAT?" I ask, my thoughts racing. (Dun Dun DUN)

Tears of the Unknown

(Warning: This is sad)

Mick was a young, adventurous boy. He had an average amount of friend's, and went out of his way to make them happy. He was the nicest kid anyone had known, but what he got wasn't what he deserved.

It had been a happy day when it happened, no one would have suspected anything would happen. Mick, and his friends had been playing in the forest, jumping over logs, swimming in the lake, and climbing trees. "I bet I can climb higher than you!" one of his friends boasted. "Is that a challenge?" Mick asked, laughing. His friend had nodded, a look of confidence on his face. Mick laughed again. "Alright. You, and I will climb this tree." he said, pointing at a very tall tree. "Whoever wins gets the cookies my mom packed." he continued. His friend nodded. "Consider it done." he said challengingly.

The two boys started climbing the tree at the same time, but Mick was faster, and stronger. "I'm beating you!" he shouted playfully. His friend laughed, and continued climbing. For an adult, they weren't that high on the tree, but they were kids, and when Mick looked down he felt a wave of fear crawl through him. He shook it off, and continued climbing since his friend was getting ahead of him. His friend tired quickly, and sat on a branch. "I'm stopping here." he said. Mick laughed, but it was edged with nervousness. Determined to win, Mick climbed higher until he lost his grip on a branch, and fell to the ground. It was quickly found out that Mick wouldn't be waking up anytime soon.

Mick's friend quickly climbed down from the tree. His name was Jacob, a confident, and charming boy. "I-is he going to be okay?" he stuttered. Another one of their friends, Stewart, shook his head. "Get him to his mom. Now!" Jacob shouted. The others nodded, and helped Jacob carry Mick back to his house.

After they had gotten Mick to his house, his mom called an ambulance, and they drove to the hospital. They all sat in the waiting room in silence leaving Jacob to drown in his own guilt. A few minutes later, a doctor gestured for them all to follow him. He lead them to a hospital room where Mick was asleep in a hospital bed. The doctor took a big breath of air before saying "He's in a coma.".

For several months Mick was in a coma, and for several months Jacob came to visit him. Until finally, one day, Mick woke up. Jacob hadn't been alone on that day, he had brought all of Mick's other friends, and Mick's mom was there too. When Mick woke up they were quickly shooed out of the room by a doctor. After a few minutes the doctor came out of the room. "You can see him now, but you may...choose not to." the doctor said. Jacob didn't need to be told twice, he ran into the room the second the doctor came out. "Mick are you okay?" he asked, shaking his arm lightly. "Wh-who are you?" Mick asked. Jacob looked at Mick, an appaled expression on his face. "Mick it's me Jacob!" he said, shaking Mick again as if to try, and shake the memories into him. "He's suffering from amnesia, we're not sure if his memories can be recovered." Jacob heard the doctor say. He looked at Mick as if he had been betrayed. "Mick..." he started, but trailed off. "I'm sorry, but I don't know you." Mick said. Jacob let go of Mick's arm, crying. He tried to stop crying, he knew his tears wouldn't matter. After all, they were merely tears of the unknown.
