"Years before I lost Chiei, my mate had died of injuries around his neck that got infected. I could handle his loss since he died protecting me and Chiei. When I lost Chiei, I lost all that remained of my family. I'm all that's left," Mayumi explained, "All I have left of my family is Chiei's grave, that wooden doll, and memories."

"I'm sorry..." when said before pausing.  "I still don't understand by what you mean by trying the family scene again, though.". She wasn't trying to pry into anything, she just didn't understand.

"I'm thinking of having a family again. I've still got several hundred years before I'm too old to have a mate and kids," Mayumi said, "Now that Chiei has moved on, I feel I can allow myself a second chance at a family."

"Oh... that's what you mean." she said.  'Wow, I'm an idiot...' she thought to herself.

"I have some preparations before I can think of doing that though. As it is, my home can barely house two people comfortably. I'll have to work up enough silver to pay for my place to be expanded," Mayumi said looking towards her home, "I'll still maintain my business in the front, but that won't be too much of a problem, even with a family to keep me busy."

"I could help you to get more of the silver faster..." she offered.  Though she wasn't sure how many people Mayumi's new family had, she was determined to help her out.

"I will have plenty time to gather the silver. I still don't know who I'm going to settle down with yet either. Thanks for your offer though," Mayumi said with a smile. "You've given me hope and reason once more. I don't know how I'll ever repay you for this," mayumi saidtaking the golden charm off and handing it to Goldenscale, "Take this charm. When Chiei passed through me, the magic dissappeared from it. It is little more than a necklace now. I want you to have it."

"Are you sure?" she asked.  She couldn't take this.  She knew this as something valuable to Mayumi.  She took the necklace of.  "I can't take this..."

"Please, I give it to you because you are something valuable to me just as it is. Concider it a gift from both me and Chiei," Mayumi said looking Goldenscale in the eyes, "If anything, keep it as a symbol of the promise I made myself and Konoki. I promise I'll will be there whenever you need me."

"What did Konoki ask you?" she asked, putting the necklace back on.

"He asked me to find you a family among your own kind. If things go the way I hope they do, I would gladly take you in," Mayumi said adjusting the necklace chain so that the charm hung just below the topaz crystal, "For now, that's just something to think about."

Goldenscale blinked several times at what she said, soon falling on her behind in shock. 'S-she'd take me in?  But how would I know she wouldn't trade me like my other families. No she wouldn't do that...  But how would I know...' she thought, her thoughts conflicting each other.  "You would do that... and give me up like the others?" she asked quietly, unable to believe the thought.

"I would not trade you for anything. Even if I have children, i'll always concider you my daughter. I could not call myself a mother if I traded you away," Mayumi said in a serious  tone one would expect from someone the battlefield.

"You'd be the first not to do so then." she beamed.  "Though I love each of the leaders that took me in and acted as a father to me, I was just too odd to be a part of them, so they took me to another species 'for a better education' they say.  So I might finally have a permanent home..." she said, looking down with a slight smile.

"A mother would never trade away their child. A father aims to make the child's growth as eclectic as possible," Mayumi said smiling, "Come, the rest of the council will probably want you there to whitness the issues of the evening."
