It may also be a way to handle server space, etc. If it were unlimited space and other resources would get used up even faster.

Possibly, but surely the data in each file table as it's stored isn't that big... Althugh maybe with all the gene attributes and stuff it would be awkward.

Let's not question the game design too much. I am curious why they don't just leave blank accounts if people get banned though, keep the username in the data base, but delete all the pets and posts etc to save a lil bit of space.

BK seems generous with space, compared to a lot of other pet-type games. Only Howrse allows unlimited horses (some players have over 200,000!) but it's an anomaly. No idea how they handle it all. x)
Back on Order of the Griffin, you could only have 20 griffins, max. No way to ever increase it. For a game that was 100% about breeding for colour genetics, that was crazy. People had to abandon griffins like mad, even favourite ones whose coats they liked.
(oh, and the genetics had 10 parts or so, and a large range of colours for some of them - about the same complexity as the genetics here, possibly more? Imagine if BK never had any more stable space. Yeah... OotG was beautiful but sometimes painful.)

Oh lordy, that does sound real painful.... I wonder how many pets are possible to maintain daily on BeastEon. I wonder if we'll have a limit there.

There probably will be a limit.
As for Howrse, I used to be a major collecter on the International server. The amount horses that multiplied within a day was crazy.

Howrse wasn't interactive enough for me, I guess. I played it for a couple of days max.

I played Howrse once and then gave up. The tutorial was too long.

I left becauae of both those reasons. The community couldn't have any proper discussion like the General Chat and such. All you could do was message others, or just stick to yourself.

I'm so excited for BeastEon. Definitely going to be the best pet game out there.

At the risk of proving I'm too lazy to google things, what is BeastEon?
Posted at 2017-07-22 21:34:18 — Link
It's going to be more of a beast sims game. Beastkeeper's admins are creating and are kind of abandoning Beastkeeper for it. This game with still run, but it will take a major backseat compared to BeastEon. If you look at the news in this game, there's more info. You can also see the gradual degredation of this game as the admins started focusing on BeastEon. From an event every 2 weeks to nothing almost.

Ah Howrse. I used to be in the top 100, and still have 6000 or so prize horsies, and a treasure trove of items. Probably several thousand passes' worth. They're all just sitting there like a giant trophy cabinet until I figure out who to give them to. x) Don't know any friendly people though.
As soon as I joined BK, I left Howrse. The community there is huge and unfriendly, lots of arguing and censoring by mods for the slightest mistake, and you're not allowed to ever chat about random things, like art. So silly. BK is tiny in comparison but it's sooo much nicer here!
Really excited for BE too. :D Though I worry about not having much time for it, if my own projects take off. Still gonna watch with great interest either way.
Oh, LadyChipmunk - BeastEon is the next game that the BeastKeeper devs are working on. Think of it like a sequel or "improved BK", with the same beasts and setting, but rebuilding it with newer code, which will allow expanded features. You can read more in its forum section (scroll to the bottom of the list).

The thing I'm sad about is limited custom art. And your pets will flip out on you if you're not a perfect owner. I am looking forward to breeding mechanics, more interaction with pets, and new competitions with a potential bigger fan base that's active.

Thanks, RaptorKitty and Marans. I will read up, but it sounds like it will be cool. And if the people here are going there then I'll tag along just for the chats.
