"You're thinking of vitae fire, the polar opposite of mirajin. Both have similar properties. Vitae differes in that mutations caused by it bring thr effected closer to nature, and direct vitae contact will irradicate a leupak," he said, "Mayumi probably told you about your resistance to vitae."

"Must have been my dear friend Kelan them. You've already met him and Valdren then," he said, watching Alikai's actions, "He probably said something deeply unnerving. He may have just seen your life from start to finish. It's hard to tell with him."

"It's a given that he did, but how clearly he saw it is unknown. All he needed to do to see you entire life was to just look at you. While he does know how you will die, he doesn't know every detail of the situation. He knows how, but not why," he said, "He's made several attempts on his own life for that very fact. He tried once every year, and it always end in failure. He loves all living beings, and he wants to save them all, but he knows he can't."

"Well, imagine that you fail every time you try to save someone. He sees how someone will die, and no matter what he does, their fate is sealed. He rarely interacts with mortals because of this. It's to save himself, and to prevent himself from causing any more harm," he said, morphing back into an aeneski, "It will drive him mad some day. It will drive him madder than even me, and when it happens Valenth will be lost."

"He is the chapter of vitae, or in simpler terms the chapter of soul. Should he go completely mad, he has the power to pull the soul from the planet itself. At that point, not even he would survive, none of us chapters would," he said, his eyes turning as white and blank as his cloths, "All of Valenth would be destroyed. Even if I hid in the Reverie, my soul is tied to Valenth, just as his and Bastion's are."

"Oh no... That isn't good at all... Is there a way to prevent ot?" she asked quietly.

"I'm afraid not. Not unless there's a way to make every being on Valenth imortal alongside the planet itself. It's the inevitable death mortals all reach that hurts him so much. After seeing so many friends die,  he wants to save everyone from this fate, but even he can't prevent such a fundamental piece of nature," he said, his voice mellowing out and becoming flat, "I've seen his mind, and I know how it works. It will be several thousand years before he reaches the point of breaking, but he will get there eventually. I may be a scientist, but even I don't want to see what happens when he breaks."

A pitch black dragon with red underneath falls from the sky a sword firmly lodged into its chest, warm blood seeps out. The dragon groans and rumbles, she is unconcious but still alive somehow. The sword buzzes with energy and the dragons wings raise and drop with its breath.
