Runes are the word which animates the golem. Erasing the first symbol will make the golem collapse (original meaning "truth" transforms to "death").
Here are some original legends about golems.

Cuttlefish... Image it as a polished rock-type creature meant to look like the rubbery skin of the fish. Edit, body is made of obsidian stone, face is made of granite.

Can we do a mix or ruby/granite or any mix?

Wheat Crow Golem
'Cause, ya know, Scarecrows. With wooden legs and beak.
As an afterthought, I think I'll keep it like this without runes. And say that the runes are on the center pole. As a sort of center of the structure keeping everything balanced.
Edit:
Magnetite Pangolin. Laminaria Cobra. Ore Elephant. Hops Golem.
I have 2 more idea's, probably changing from Shell and Sunflowerseed, to Amethyst and Soybeans. They ought to still work.
Also hope it's alright to expand my post rather then make a new.
arr why do I keep thinking they should be 350x350, sorry I'll fix the elephant and hops

Fya, no, every golem must represent only one material.
Lassie, Erislyn, Asthora, thanks for the entries! :)

Does it matter any if an entry doesn't have a shadow at all?
Does it matter if they are based on a species that is related to but not actually the same as one that is already a golem?
Posted at 2013-03-27 23:39:25 — Link
Trask_Anda, if you mean only a shadow like on the basic 4 golems, then it's okay if there's no shadow. If you mean the shading, then it should be in accord with the portrayed object, it can't just be absent on the artwork.
The species of the golem can be any, there's no limits.

Are there limits to what the animal can be?

taylorkitsch, no. Anything you can imagine :)

There is a decided differentiation between "a shadow" and "shading". I definitely meant "shadow".
So here
Have a metal adamantine dinosaur.
Pretty good for my first real attempt at metal ever... (but I'm still wondering if people might accidentally mistake it for lazulite...)
-~-~-
Okay, he's pretty crummy, in my opinion, no matter how cute. I lost the plot while I was trying to shade him...
Marble Golem, based on cynthiacetus and other pre-whales. Only it is a fossil. Because they found one in marble.

Trask it does look more like stone than metal, though I really like what you did with the design! It's one of my favorites :)

Angel, I have a question. Are we allowed to edit/resubmit our entries if we decide to make changes to the artwork?
electricity is in my soul.
