Rory sent an owl home, saying she was going to be at school for Christmas. Mum was a little disappointed, but when she heard there was work to do, she grudgingly agreed to let her stay at school.

Lavender was doing her work for potions when Eagleflame landed on the window sill.

Lavender read the letter acatched to his leg;

how are you doing dear? listen, your father got in a car crash with the devil Robert Bumblham, and he's had some really bad brain damage. Please dear, come home, your father may not have much time left...

Lavender started to cry. her parents where Muggles, thus they couldn't fix them selfs if they had a acsedent, lavender had to go home

Chase looked up from his homework as he heard someone cry. It was a girl, she looked about Rory's age. He hated it when people cried, but should he go and see if she was alright?

Rory was almost asleep, and in her pjs, when she heard Chase talking to a girl who was wiping her eyes. Her eyes were red and she was clutching a small envelope. It was dotted with tears, and scrunched up in her hand. Rory walked down the steps of the girls dorm and hung arpound at a distance. She desperately wanted to go over and ask what was the matter, but with Chase there, it seemed like she would be crowding her, and Rory's people skills weren't really top shape. Dopey slipped out from the pocket in her grey tracksuit pants and rocketed towards the two sitting on the red couches.

"Dopey!!! No!!"

Rory blinked. She hadnt really expected an outburst, but now that she knew what was going on, she wanted to help even more. Rory recognised the girl from Ravenclaw, but didn't want to seem insensitive if she pointed out she was in the Griffindor common room. She sat down next to the girl.

"Sorry. I'm not going to pretend I know how you feel, because I don't, but I want to help you. Maybe not in the way both of us would hope, but I promise I'll try."

Rory wasn't sure if what she'd said was good, but it was better than anything else that could've come out of her mouth.
