Honestly the only reason I've gotten any ice is this guy:

My giant pile of unicorns with no elemental resistance doesn't do much against the tundra creatures, and my Drakes have difficulty past level 7.

My Doom Drakes, Byakhee and Shantak have been my most useful kami's, although my Carpo is starting to get more ice too.
My unicorns haven't done too bad but I don't think I would have been able to activate my snowflake when I did had it not been for my kami's.
I have noticed that I have got quite a few Etelias, even on higher levels (10, 11, 12 +), that are lower than level 50.
Maybe I'm just lucky.

I bought three cheap deviant unicorns (although 50k isn't really that "cheap") as soon as the event started. But I must say I was dismayed that I only have one pet that can get to level ten. I've tried breeding another, but she wont be level 50 for some time yet.

Haha, found my snowflake but couldn't beat the guardian in front of it so I left the island. Been searching for another one ever since, but no luck :(

Got mine, finally. I do not think I'd have had a chance if I hadn't had Carpo and the Doom Drake. One GP3 unicorn with Diamond Horn managed to get exactly one crystalline ice, after spending three days trying to beat the same Etelia, but all the rest of my pets were useless, and I had really bad luck getting portals on higher levels for my Doom Drake. I'm not sure I want to bother trying to get more ice so that I can breed this Etelia.
If anyone wants Lykos eggs, please let me know. I have like ten, and I'd be happy to trade them.
Also -- I don't usually breed for deviants on purpose, but I tend to get a tonne of them inadvertently because I breed for some of the most recessive patterns. If anyone needs deviants or liquid deviance and is having trouble getting some, please PM me. I don't have anything at the moment, but I would be happy to make some sort of attempted-deviance-breeding arrangement if anyone is interested.

Huh, I was on two different islands each with a pristine snowflake on it, and I finally beat the guardian in front of one of them today. Since we're only supposed to be able to collect one from islands, would it still be possible for me to get the other one on the island or should I just give up? Lol

I got a second snowflake significantly later than the first so I think it was a bug, but I picked it up anyway. It disappeared from my inventory a couple days later, so I guess the staff must have been checking and removed it. I don't know what would have happened if I'd made an Etelia from it, but I have a strong feeling it would have been confiscated.
So I say, don't bother.

Dear yummy, if you battle manually, then read, what the opponents do to you. If it says: "It has stalked you", it means silent pace. I tend to walk away from those, for they are exceedingly difficult to beat. If it says: "It has repulsed your elemental strike", it means they have elemental resistance. Ordinary (portal) guardians can even have regeneration or second breath. On the other hand, I have seen a level five portal guardian having elemental vulnerability as well.

Addition: If you say, that you keep "biting", until you win or lose, it will depend on the one, you yourself are using to "bite". For example I have a roc with musical beak and massive wings, both only useful, when using "rush", so to keep him "biting", would be quite pointless.

Same happened to me, and when I finally defeated the monster, the log said something along the lines of "the snowflake melted before you could take it". Kind of a bummer, because I stayed there four or five days trying to see what would happen.
