Couldn't they be ancient gold coins worth XXX amount of silver now? That's what I thought it was, from the lore I read. (Forgot where I read it from though.)

Who leaves perfect piles of stacked coins anyways? And who keeps them IN a stack with all the beasties roaming around? That is what I want to know. Maybe each island has a little hermit man who hides behind the rocks when we show up. I wonder what else hides behind those rocks, and the buildings.

@Monues. Maybe there is a deranged leprechaun that has been seperated from his family due to creative differences. He is a bit OCD and likes order instead of chaos so he stacks everything in neat piles. Since he has been banned from the leprechaun guild of his forebearers he has been banned from touching real gold. He's gone a bit crazy in the days since his expulsion and he copes by spraying all the silver near him gold. The leprechaun psychiatrist calls it the "wannabe Midas disorder". He is craving gold but can no longer touch it, lest he turn into stone, so he creates fake gold- this in turn tricks himself and others.

Some things, out of context, can be interpretted in a pretty terrible way. I had quite the time finding an image for this one that wouldn't come off as offensive given the topic XD
