Brackenpaw waited for a few seconds, hoping a cat would appear later, but nobody did. Instead, he saw Dustpaw turn and head back to camp.

If only I could get him to tell me something, Brackenpaw thought. Or hedgehogs could fly...

Brackenpaw flattened his ears and jumped from the tree, landing awkwardly on his paws, but not seriously hurt.

The second he arrived at camp he looked around for Lilystar. He raced over, seeing her talking with the deputy, Lightningfoot.

“Lilystar! I need to ta-”

“Not right now, Brackenpaw, I'm busy.”

“But it's really impor-”

“I'm sure it is, but it can wait until you guys become warriors.”

“Um....”

“Well-” Brackenpaw interrupted, but Lilystar continued.

“I thought you were excited to become a warri-”

“I am, but it can't wait!”

“Are you sure?”

Lilystar sighed. “Alright, Brackenpaw, but we really have to get to your ceremony. I'll check it out later.”

“Uh...you don't really have to go look at it...” Brackenpaw tried to say as Lilystar started to walk away.
