Brackenpaw paused for a second longer, before turning and plunging into the underbrush, not daring to look back.
Brackenpaw skitted into camp. “Fox! Adderstrike! Help!” he yowled.
Brackenpaw saw the Lilystar pad out of her den. She called a group of warriors and asked Brackenpaw to lead them to the fox.

Brackenpaw raced out of camp, leading the group of warriors and Lilystar to where he last saw the fox.
He skid to a stop. He couldn't see Adderstrike or the fox, but he saw pawprints...and blood.
Lilystar padded forward and sniffed the blood. “It's Adderstrike's,” she announced.
“Adderstrike!” Brackenpaw yowled. He followed the trail of blood to a group of ferns.
Brackenpaw burst through. “Adderstrike! I got help like yo-” He stopped.
Adderstrike lay in the dust, blood from his neck. Brackenpaw slowly padded forward. Adderstrike's friendly eyes were now dull and lifeless.
Brackenpaw looked away.

Brackenpaw turned to the others, most of which were staring sadly at Adderstrike.
“We'll go find the fox,” Brackenpaw meowed firmly, determination in his eyes.
Lilystar's gaze softened. “Brackenpaw, we can't go after the fox. It's long gone.”
“We have to!” Brackenpaw whimpered. “I-it killed Adderstrike!”
“Brackenpaw, you can't go after the fox. Go find Dustpaw.”
“I'm going after the fox!” Brackenpaw spat, turning a fleeing into the ferns. He felt a weight on his back. Lilystar held him to the ground, and she spun him to face her.
“Brackenpaw, that's an order. I know how you feel.”
“You know nothing!” Brackenpaw hissed. He rolled over, stood up, and ran in the direction of camp. He stopped, angrily lashing out at a pebble, kicking it as far as he could. I should really find Dustpaw, he thought irritatedly.

Brackenpaw trudged along, toward the BreezeClan border. His ears pricked as he heard Dustpaw's voice.
“...understand. I won't tell anyone.”
“Anyone?” a rough, but quiet meow reached Brackenpaw's ears.
“Anyone,” Dustpaw's determined voice rang throught the clearing.
“Swear on StarClan!" the voice hissed.
“I-I swear.”
Brackenpaw narrowed his eyes. Dustpaw still hadn't noticed him.

Brackenpaw leapt out of the bushes. “Caught you!” His eyes widened. Dustpaw was alone. “Who were you talking to?” he demanded.
Dustpaw jumped, surprised, but quickly narrowed his eyes. “No one. Go to the medicine cat, you must be hearing voices.”
Brackenpaw hissed. “I did not! You were talking with someone. Who? About what?” Brackenpaw interrogated.
“I'll tell you when hedgehogs fly!” Dustpaw snarled.

That's weird, in my original story Brackenpaw tries to look for a hedgehog and flings it in the air.... XD
Brackenpaw hissed. “Well if you had been with us, Adderstrike might not have died!”
Dustpaw froze. “Adderstrike...is dead?”
“Yes!” Dustpaw snarled. “And if you had been there, we could've taken down the fox together!”
“Brackenpaw, calm down. I didn't know about it. It's not my fault.”
“Mo, it is!” Brackenpaw hissed. “If you ha-”
“Brackenpaw, go back to camp. You clearly need rest.” Dustpaw interupted. “Adderstrike's death is too much for you.”
“And why aren't you sympathizing?” Brackenpaw retorted.
“Go to camp Brackenpaw.”

Brackenpaw grumbled, then loped away before making a U-turn and climbing a tree nearby Dustpaw.
He found a branch big enough to hold his weight, and waited. Dustpaw faced the tree, unaware of Brackenpaw.
“Sorry. Brackenpaw's a mousebrain. He'll leave us alone.”
“Good,” came the voice. Brackenpaw strained to see a cat, nearly falling, but couldn't see anyone else.
