Thought I would make a separate thread, but this is heavily based on the ideas and thoughts put forward in this thread.

The idea is to fix duplicate and redundant skins, within reason, by making them unique. By "redundant" I mean skins that are only recolors of another skin, for example all of the striped puma skins. The exception are the bi-color skins for roc and gryphon.

This thread does not address the dragon or cockatrice skins at this point. All of the dragon skins are redundant and most 'trice skins. Go to this thread to support dragon skins being redone.

But I'm not just suggesting they be redone, I've actually made alternate skins myself.
They can either be used directly, as inspiration, or pointed and laughed at. If they are not used, but popular enough, I could submit them as skins.

Unicorn - I posed these on that first thread, but thought I should repost them here.
White - Piebald: White Brindle

White - Cream: Pearlino

Gray - Cream: Silver Pangare

Gryphon
White - Passerines: Snow Bunting

Black - Passerines: Raven

Yellow - Birds of Prey - Peregrine Falcon

Roc and Puma in progress, but I have to run to class. Thought I would go ahead and post what I have. :/

These look pretty good -- and the redundant skins are annoying so support.

Thing with the two yellow gryphon skins is that one is supposed to be the eagle (bird of prey) and one is supposed to be the lion (cats). Sucks when you're trying specifically for the cat gene in the gryphon - but the yellow gryphon is the only redundant skin in that line That said, however, maybe they could be labled as such to avoid redundancy with actually changing the skin? Or perhaps leave the yellow gryphon the way it is as "eagle" and color the yellow/cat gryphon's bird-bits a dark brown like a lion's mane?

WIth pumas I think there should only be two or three tiger coats - "red", white and yellow. The white coats, with the exception of the white/graying seem no-brainers to me: Snow leopard (white spotted), white (white/normal), albino (white/dilute). Not sure what to do about the siamese coats, I think they're fine.

I collect and breed cockatrice - See my wanted ad if you're willing to breed or sell your cockatrice!

The trouble with the gryphons is... well... the yellow one doesn't look much like a lion or eagle to me. I decided though it was most lion-like so re-did the bird one.
Personally, if I were the artist here I would redo the bicolor gryphon to look like a bald or Steller sea eagle. Maybe I will anyway, that's not a bad idea. >_>;

I've already started work on the pumas. The skins I am doing are...
Grey - Striped: Marbled Tabby
Yellow - Striped: Golden Tiger (recolored, it doesn't use the same tiger base.)
Brown - Striped: Brown Tabby
Red - Spotted: Serval
Brown - Spotted: Bobcat
White - Spotted: Snow Leopard
Either Normal - White or Dilute - White: Fawn
White - Graying Modifier: Cream Van/Cream Point Tabby

I am leaving the siamese coats alone, they aren't so bad.

The trouble with an albino puma is, by default, the nose is pink on most of the other colors. The only real difference between a true albino cat and a white cat (that you could see on the puma base) are nose and eye color. :|
For rocs, it's easy. I can recolor the feet and, eyes, and beak of the normal white and and bicolor white one, since the feed and beak color do vary quite a bit for other other colors, and leave the current dillute as an albino.

The pumas should be up soonish. Only three or four left.

I like this idea, and all those skins. They're very pretty.

Yes please for the unicorns. I'd use a grey jar on Paint it black immediately if that were the white piebald color. XD

Total support! Your style is great, as I are your ideas. I'll see if I can think of some cockatielgarage* dragon ideas when I'm not on an IPad.

Dragon: I think we could change a pattern gene to "Frogs"

White: Albino frog (some have yellow on them...)

Blue: Poison Arrow Frog (http://www.columbia.edu/itc/cerc/danoff-burg/invasion_bio/inv_spp_summ/Dendrobates_auratus.html)

Green: Red-eyed tree frog

Black: Cowan's Golden Frog (http://www.cites.org/gallery/species/amphibian/black_golden_frog.html)

Red: Tomato Frog (http://www.adambouskila.com/2007/05/16/tomato-frogs/)

Silver: Gray tTree Frog (http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Wildlife/Nongame/frogs/frog_graytreefrog.htm)

(e)* Cockatrice. Spell check has issues.

I call Vermillion "Vermi"

I occasionally use an IPad- please excuse spellcheck.

I won't be doing the reptiles in this suggestion, at least for a while, because I feel all the skins for them should be redone. That's quite an undertaking, especially since I assume my skins will not even be used until I hear otherwise.

My own thoughts were, for striped dragons, use snakes for inspiration. Like Woma python, green tree boa, as striped skins for example.

For cockatrice, chicken patterns, snake patterns. Since they are chicken snakes.

I would LOVE snake markings!

Aww Ankokou- I wanted to make a rooster cockatrice for a skin... like make it more roostery. Hahahha :) I do love the idea though. We could use more variety.

I don't do too much breeding (I want to level my pets first) so I'm asking a question.. how easy would it be to impliment new colors into the current system? I understand the jist of breeding, but I'm wondering how it would be done in reality because we already have combinations, would we have to re-work them or add new markings with new combos, or sets of new markings at a time.... -confused-

Adding new color genes would be pretty major. For one it would need done for all the species since they have an equal number of genes.

I don't know how hard it would be to modify the code but at the very least each new marking gene added means 5 to 6 new skins need done per species.
Meaning if we wanted to add a new color modifier gene it would mean a total of 30 new skins need made. If we added a new pattern modifier, 36 skins. And the number just increases exponentially for each new color or pattern added.

I do not think new marking genes need added. Or at least until the distant future. I would much, much, much rather see new species added.

This suggestion is merely to replace any redundant and duplicate skins with unique ones, not to add any more markings.

Support! A lot of the unicorns have redundant patterns so variety would be great!
