Okay, so I know on the battlefield, you can trade so much material, for something else. I'm however, not quite understanding the concept of moons and such. As much as I watched the video, it still doesn't make complete sense to me. If someone can sort of explain this part to me, I'd be really greatful!

The "moons" thing is just story context. Getting to the Portal just means you can make the trade for rare building materials, plus get the associated rewards if you hold the position for at least ten hours. There are no other moons you can actually go to.

There are actually two different moons to explore through the portal (thus altering which pet you can find. The two maps gives users two battlefields: Homeworld and Mirror. Mirror is basically a second map (everything is the same).

The portal prize varies between the moons you visit.  With Io you can recieve a Symurgh, and Ganymede you recieve a Throdama. Info is found here for both: http://beastkeeper.com/beast-codex#q1

To gain access to the Mirror world your pets will "research" the way to the Mirror world. Pets with greater research points can "find" the moon with more ease. Research points can be increased by exposing your pet to the world. Research potential is listed on the pets bio on their page. If you hover over the question mark and select "details" you can see what your pet has accomplished and what they can do to increase their score.

Thank you. I wasn't quite grasping how things worked with that. I truly appreciate the help to further my understanding of how to use it.

That is not how I was led to believe it worked at all. The two battlefields are called Homeworld and Mirror, not Io and Ganymede. You can receive a symurgh or a throdama from either one by switching moons once you get to the Portal space. The "moons" are not physical places you visit, they just determine whether you get a symurgh or throdama.

This is a slight amendment to my first response, since I've only taken the Portal once and not remembered much about it, but I just dug through the news archives and found this post, from when the Mirror world was first introduced.

The portal is the entrace/link to the moon. My wording was a bit confusing.

Move to the central zone to open the portal to one of the moons!
