Thanks! Oddly enough I did the giraffe spots before I finished the lineart... It was one of the few things I could visualize and knew I wanted. They were ridiculously tedious, and wore down my nib a lot. By that point I just wanted to finish. Hence the fairly careless lines. I just wanted to get my concept up. I had hoped to update it shortly after. But we had that dreamlands event, I got a new job, and went out of the country and in general have been so busy with the holidays!! I appreciate that though! :)

These fins have me stumped. They were okay to draw on paper, but not colored o.o

Yes! Let me know! I am really excited to see and elephant and crocodile version.

So, i finished one of them, but I am not alowed to post my images, and I would also prefer if you would use this link also, but here is the image url:
REMOVED

This is the one based upon your original. I went with a more deer-like face, and also gave it a more fish-like tail, and kept the seahorse underbelly. Now I myself am also not very good with hooves, but I tried my best.

If it looks dirty, I would like to appologize for that. The pages in my sketch book are kinda yellow when bought, and I photo copied this with my scanner, and these two combine kinda make my images kinda gray.

When I get another chance, I will start the Elephant/Crocodile one

Edit: the original is now coloured:  REMOVED

took me two hours to do, but it was a really fun thing to draw, colour, shade, etc.. I will have to wait another hour until I start the Elephant crocodile one. Please ignore signature

I love your fins so much more! They flow better. Mine look... Stiff. I like the nose on yours too!

This looks great! I can't wait to see the crocodile and elephant one!

Why can't you post images?

I'll see if I can edit my post to add an image from my phone. I don't think I will be able to, but I will when my computer is on!

I prefer not to. And to keep it as a link would be much more appreciated.

I can't wait to do the other one! I am kinda lost on how to do it, however, inspiration will come. I am a little caught up with the Christmas excitment so, I'll do what I can.

It's all good! I will leave it as a link on the main post.

Haha.. I don't even know... Maybe a crocodile with an elephant snout/tusks and small version of elephant ears?

Thanks Nightingale

I was kinda thinking of doing something like that, but also having a seals tail, for the makara has also been depicted as seal like.

Yes! Ahh, seal was the animal I forgot! I used a seal like tail in my version, but forgot to mention that! Eep!!

This will be one strange mix of critters!! I was also thinking it could have the ridges that you see on crocodile backs.

Oy, yeah, those are a bit weird....

This is what originally inspired me (that and a book I have on weird mystical critters):

I had a little bit of time today, so I made some minor updates:

This reminds me of the legend of kelpies! Most styles I've seen of them have hues that mimick horse patterns and then add on predatory fish like the baracuda or even dophins in their designs. However, if you're using the giraffe marks in this one why not use a little leopard, zebra hippo and croc patterns in it? Or even why not have  a mix of african based marine and land animal patterns? Like the snake fish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snakehead_(fish) , the Nile perch: http://www.africa-angler.com/communities/2/004/012/350/742//images/4603300547.jpg , the coelacanth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Indian_Ocean_coelacanth , the giraffe like you already have, the cheetah, and the african wild dog?

Just ideas X'D

thanks much! The style I did was actually based off of a fish called a danio. I think I still have the link and can post when I'm on my laptop! I think snakehead would make a perfect skin!!

This creature, the Makara, reminds me of the Capricornus (sea goat) crature that represents the constellation (more frequently just referred to as Capricorn for the astrological sign). It has the forelegs, torso, and head of a goat with it's waist (wait, do goats technically have waists?) going into a serpent/fishy tail. It might be useful to look up some images of the Capricornus for fin design or to see how the tail merges with the upper body. Although I personally love your design how it is ;)
