So my knowledge of the battlefield is literally this: You need a military academy to make a squad. A squad is made of 4 creatures. That's it.

I made a squad, but I have no idea how to do anything or what I 'm even trying to do. There are no tooltips anywhere when you mouse over something so I have no idea what anything does. Any guides that I've found seem to assume some basic working knowledge of the battlefield, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere that explains those basics. Have I overlooked something really obvious somewhere?

(I'm preparing myself for immense embarrassment when someone sends me a link that explains everything btw. :P)

Have you looked at the Tactics FAQ? This is the closest thing to an exhaustive guide on the Battlefield. There's also a step-by-step video showing you how to make a squad and use it on the field. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

Yeah, tooltips would be amazing *gently nudges Angel*

The tactics FAQ does tell you what everything does. But it's not a how-to.

The dark sectors of the map indicate where you can go with your squad. Choose a sector and click on it. Then you can either move to it (if it's unoccupied) or fight for it.

To move or fight you have to roll (imagine each pet has a four-sided dice). Once you've rolled, you get points for each tactic that appears, although some have 0 points and some (the red ones) have -1 points.

Go to each pet in your squad and click on the tactics tab underneath them. It's good to have at least one pet with Leadership, I find, as this doubles your points in a round. But what you also need is pets with big attacks, like fire breath, acid spit and ice breath. These score 3 or 4, depending on your pet's stats.

Pets that have Ice aura or Terror or Confusion are also useful, as these double the points of the next attack.

If you need further help, do pm me and I'll try walk you through any other stuff you need help with :)

Yeah, I have looked at the tacics FAQ, but I guess it just seems really complicated to me! I looked at it again, though, and I do have a couple of specific questions.

Does the level of the pets in your squad affect anything since things seem to moslty be tactic (and therefore gene) based?

Also, it says that you have 5 minutes to make your attack or defense roll. So if one of the two players isn't online, do they automatically lose or does nothing happen at all? So you can only really do anything if the person whose squad you attack is online at the same time?

Thanks a bunch!

Ok, first question: the level of your pets affects the stats that they have, which does make some attacks have more points. This means that your Ice Breath lykos, for example, is going to get four points for his/her Blizzard attack instead of three points. But generally the level of your pets isn't extremely important. Genetics, and therefore tactics, is.

Mix of tactics is also important. If you can get a pet with Leadership, this can double your points in a round.

Now, the 5 minute rule gives you time to roll the "dice" or whatever you want to call them, against the set of results that your opponent rolled when they originally came to that sector. You'll find if you move to a sector (or win a battle) you are given a "Make a Roll" button to click. This is the set of results that any attacker who tries to fight you will have to beat. I hope this answers your questions :)

Okay, so all those level 50 pets I keep seeing in other squads aren't quite as intimidating now. :P  And the dice thing is just for when you make a move. So a squad sitting somewhere on the map has a certain number of points that came from when they moved there. So you have to roll and beat that number if you want to move there. Okay! That all makes a lot more sense. Thank you~!
