You do Quests, or you find them on the ground or in chests on Explore. The best thing to do is to acquire pets who can do more than one quest, although this is a long term goal. Most of my questers only do one quest (tan forest throdama, striped black dragon, etc.)
There's a good questing guide in the the Player Guides subforum.
