I updated my griffon image and decided I liked the coloring of the old image better. If I have the old image of my griffon. Is it art theift to make that into a custom skin? Even if I give rights to the artist in the custom skin description?

I believe that if you just upload the original skin, it probably won't be accepted. However, if you have the old base and make that into a custom skin with your own design it will still be accepted (I think) Angel or someone else  probably will have more to say on this matter though. I might have the old base if you want to try making a custom skin.

You can use the old base for creating custom skins. Although you can't just submit an old official skin or a skin that is very close to the official. You also must be a sole author of the skin (except the base itself, of course). You can't ask somebody else to make a skin for you and then upload it from your account. However you may ask the skin creator to upload it from their account as a private skin for you.
