So, the pumas have had their lines redone and whatnot. I feel like that fate should befall the dragons now. Their lines are awkward and their anatomy doesn't seem to be quite right.

Like, what's going on with the legs? Their feet are all in a line, which would mean that... the back right leg is stretched waaay to the left, and the left legs are stretched way to the right. The dragon would be falling over with that position o_o

The feet in general just kind of look... awkward. I'm not sure how to explain it other than it looks wrong.

And then the neck/head looks disproportionate. The head's too small in relation to the rest of the body and the neck is just too tiny compared to that big, muscular body.

Anyone want to dispute/comment? owo

I didn't really notice until you pointed it out but it does look like the dragon is crossing its legs! The pumas have just been redone with completely new colors too so it will probably take a considerable amount of time for the other species.

The other species will probably share the same fate but it takes time to completely redraw and recolor each and every dragon. And to keep up game updates on top of that? expect many more months until this happens.

Just FYI, we're working on gryphons at this moment, they need update a lot more than any other species right now. I can't promise any updates on dragons soon. Liandralithe is right, this is pretty big amount work with kind of low priority comparing to gameplay updates. Besides this, dragons were the first who got their base improvement when deviants were introduced. Before starting the new turn of improvements / revamps or anything else in this field, we need finish with this turn for the main six species - gryphons and cockatrices don't have their deviants yet.

Also please remember that this is a fantasy creature and there's no "correct" anatomy for it. All of us have own preferences in creature design, but when you think of proportions, remember diplodocus' head size and giraffe's neck length which is not enough even to reach down to the water. Or how about this creature as a direct opposite? :) Nature is quite intricate about proportions, so until the animal exists in reality, we can't say what proportions are correct for it. There is an explanation for our dragons' proportions taking into account our sci-fi world and their background (remember that they fly, and not with magic - they can't afford big neck and head but need well-developed muscles for body, large chest and rigid pelvis), but it's not a problem to find an explanations for a creature with different proportions as well. It can be found for pretty anything except the things that are purely out of logic like extremely cartoony creatures.

As for the pose, this is just a matter of the angle of view. It's a flat profile, so paws will be on the same line when they are touching the earth. Here's a 3D render that shows the same angle. Probably the confusion appears because different species have a bit different angle, and I totally agree that some unification will benefit the dragons here. There's a vast field for improvement, of course, mostly for the expression and originality, and maybe lighting and texturing.

I'm kind of in a rush on my way out to work- so I just would like to chime in quickly.... GRYPHONS ARE BEING RE-DONE!?!?!

*ahem* As you can tell, I'm excited. :)

I agree, there are some anatomy overhauls, mostly regarding proportions. However, Angel is correct... Anatomy for fantasy creatures is up to interpretation. I'm happy that it is being worked on, but I agree. I would prefer game updates to art. I'm a sucker for gryphons though. :) I wonder if deviants will be involved?? When I first came to BK my goal was to collect every skin for gryphons. I did :D this could be fun if we have deviants!!

Always looking for Expand Stable Scrolls
