First off both pets need to have energy. They also need to both not be busy.
Go to the pet's page you want to breed, make sure you are going through the female's page. On the bar on the right side of the page you will see a little red heart that says "breed". Click on it.
It will bring you to a page where you see your males, and other users' pets that are up for breeding (you can search them). Click on the pets name to breed. It will bring you to a page with that pets information. Scroll to the borrom to accept the breeding.

Can you breed animals of diffrent kinds? (such as a unicorn and a dragon for example?)

No you cannot. Species cannot crossbreed.
