Hum, so i just went exploring and noticed this. All the black cover that is usually on while exploring is gone. I went to see if it was a one time weird glitch but it isn't as i just sent out another critter and it is doing the same thing again.
Nothing else is wrong with it as far as i can tell, just the black cover. And while it is quite nice to see everything, i do believe it is a bug. I use firefox and windows 7 if that helps at all.

Do you have the Inn built already?
Guests come to your Inn sometimes, even if you haven't sent any invitation.
A travelling magician's effect uncovers the fog of the islands you visit. Check in you log reports to see if one is staying at your Inn.

Karakurt is right, you have Travelling Magician staying at you Inn. His perk is to remove the fog of war from islands.
