How do I get into or create a squad. 

First you need to have built at least the first level Military Accademy. Next create a new group and add the 4 pets you want to use to it. Finally click on the icon that appears when you mouseover the group's tab and select Upgrade Group to Squad.

Once you've done that, congradulations, you've created your first squad.
