I apologize profusely ahead of time for the lack of useful information here but I did my best:
I recently crafted a building with Careless and, I believe, a golem with Breathless. When the "crafting" effect ran out they were left with zero energy, despite going in with a full fifteen energy each.

CORRECTION. I believe it was actually quests that took the full 15 energy. I shall do my best to recreate this when I have the ability and then report back how it goes. (I'm so sorry my memory's so useless, but I know either crafting or quests took the full 15 energy.)

Angel has stated in a different post somewhere that questing takes all energy, even if the pet has 15 energy to begin with. The most efficient thing to do is to go exploring twice (or once if the pet has 10 energy), and when your pet is left with 5 Energy go ahead and do the quest.

Oh also, on a sidenote, you can (and should) edit posts instead of adding another reply to them.

Ah! Thank you. And oops, sorry; I normally try to do that but it slipped my mind this time! Thank you again! :)

Timain is right, actions like crafting and quests that have starting energy requirement and then completed over time (usually 4 hours) use all of the pet's energy.
