Okay. I have sent out REPTILE catchers for a week now, at almost every single possible interval. I haven't had a single sighting of a dragon, and I need one to bring in "new blood." I'm hitting the creek, the waterfall, and the big field repeatedly. However, I have had no sight of a dragon. And, now that I mention it, I haven't seen a single Cockatrice either. I've seen plenty of rocs, unicorns, pumas, and gryphons, but not a single reptile. For about a week now. Is it just me, or is something up with the game? Or have the dragons just learned the way of the ninja?

New pets won't come to the dens that are already taken. You need to catch the current pets from air dens to have a chance for a Dragon to come there and from ground dens for a chance of Cockatrice. If you checked both watering areas for several (at least 3+) turns in a row and your catchers never spotted reptiles, then obviously you don't have any reptiles in the dens right now.
