Throdamas and Symurghs are Alien species. To catch one, you need to hold the portal on the Tactic map. More information below:

If you prefer to buy one, there are quite a few in trades right now:

You can sort pet trades to view only the species you are interested in. Next to the Search bar, there is a green plus sign. Click that, select Throdama, and hit Search. Now you should only see Throdamas for trade.
