I am not sure if its a bug or not but I think its better to post this ..
Well when I saw my inventory I found that :
Item Limit: 31/30

My guess is that you placed a bid for an item, then filled up your inventory with something else (exploration etc), the auction ended, you won and the won item turned up in your inventory, thereby giving you 31/30.
I know this can happen with pets, so I'm guessing it's the same with items.
