I take it that it is perfectly normal to come across a Level 55 guardian on islands? If so then ignore this. XD I just went all like " WUT" when I saw that particular gryphon when I was exploring with my lv. 50 unicorn.

Yes is pretty normal to meet monsters that are 5 levels higher than your pet.
