I've had many questions from newbies about some terms. So I think it would be nice to clarify them for people.
There are many abbreviations and terms, and they can get very confusing. I'm putting together a little guide of abbreviations and their context. This shall be updated as time goes on.
BK Terms:
There are some terms that you don't see too often on pet sites, so I'm adding a little vocab list that will be updated with people's suggestions!
Genes: Actual genetic material that makes up a pet and is inherited from the parents. A list of genes and their description and abundance is found here: http://beastkeeper.com/gen-lib/67

Stats: The numbers on a pets profile. Black stats are neutral, red stats are negative modifiers, green stats are positive modifiers.
Skins: It may sound a bit gruesome but this refers to the coloration of the pet. A custom skin means a user has used a Rainbow Jar and selected or made a custom skin to apply to their pet. A list of all skins are found here: http://beastkeeper.com/skin-lib/67
Lvl/Level/Levelling: This has to do with the tier of a building, or a pet (up to level 50). Leveling a pet can be done via training, quests, battling (tactic map and arena), crafting and exploring.

Tactic Map: An advanced game play feature where users battle each other on a map and their success is determined via rolls (that are based on genetics). http://beastkeeper.com/masscombat

Portal: Refers to the spot on the tactic map you must hold for 10 hours to capture a symurgh (the more attacks you defend the better the symurgh you will have). Could also refer to the portal used to find/locate islands in explore.
Island: You can locate 20 islands a day (there are modifiers and they do regenerate with time). Visiting and island will take energy from your pet but you will be allowed to explore buildings, collect resources and fight monsters and guardians.

"Shopping"
Crafting: Building using schemes (items & golems) or blueprints (building)
Within crafting there is the term "stacking:. Stacking refers to the fact that you can have multiple blueprings that decrease the silver cost, to construct something.
Fog of War: When you are exploring and island it is covered in this black cloud, this is caled the Fog of War. As you move around the island the area surrounding your pet is made visible.

Forum (And Roleplay) Terms:
OP- Original Post/Original Poster
OoC (or OOC or OC)- Out of Character- Indicates that a roleplay post, or section of a post is not part of role.
BiB (Or BC)- Back in Character- Indicates a roleplay post that is "in Character"
Mary-Sue- Roleplay characters that have characteristics that make them overly powerful with few weaknesses. This is generally frowned upon.
PM- Private Message
RL- Real Life/Not on the Internet
Hiatus- User is on a break from the internet and plans to return (or is on for limited times).
Forum Auction Abbreviations:
SB: Starting Bid (the amount the auction begins at)
HB: High Bid (meaning the current highest bid)
AB: Auto-buy (meaning the amount that the seller would automatically end the auction for)
Wanted Ad/Sales Abbreviations:
(Sometimes these are in parenthesis or brackets)
s- silver (People may say they are selling for 1ks, k means thousand so the person would be selling for 1,000 silver pieces. Often though people say 1,000s, though I have seen k for more expensive purchases).
g- gold (Currency used in the premium store, you cannot trade/sell it at this point. You gain it by making the weekly charts, helping squish bugs, or submitting and having your skins used.
[W]- Wanted (what the user is searching for) OR [ISO]- In search of:
[H]- Have (what the user is trading or selling)
These two are often used together: [W] Dragons [H] Silver- meaning I want dragons and I have silver to pay for it.
[S]- Selling (what the user is selling)
[T]- Trading (indicates the user would like to trade, or what they have to trade)
[B]- Breeding (females looking for males)
[RB]- Breeding (males looking for females)
User Icons (These are Icons displayed underneath a users avatar that notes any acheivements or services provided to the site).
- Bug Squasher- Helped to find and report bugs on the site during it's Beta phase.
- Historian- Created a quest event- users who wrote a story for the daily quests/events.
- Golem Creater- Users who created art for the golems during a site-wide contest.
BK Pet Related Terms
I've received some questions about these.
GP- This refers to Genetic Power. Often it is seen as GP 1, GP 2, or GP 3.
Degen- This refers to Degeneration status of a pet as a result of inbreeding.This is the effect of breeding individuals that are too closely related (related within 3 generations) and accumulates. Often Degen 1, Degen 2 or Degen 3
