I built a Sanctuary & it says it'll heal a pet but I have no idea how to use it, does it just do it randomly, can you choose or what?

Sanctuary can be used just like the items in the inventory: click the Sanctuary in your Buildings tab and you will get the page where you can use it and then select a pet.
