So this idea is simple and I've seen it done in other breeding sims where on top of a name, you can also give a pet a prefix. A prefix appears before the pet's name much in the same way it would for a person, like, "Mr. John Smith" where "Mr." is the prefix. The prefix is usually capped on how many characters although I've seen sites with no limit prefixes.
Essentially the purpose of a prefix is that people can use them to make notes on pets, like giving a set or group of pets the same prefix so you can easily see which pets are related, or partners. The system is usually pretty open and some people get pretty complicated ones that allow them to tell the pet's parents, genetics, etc.
So anyways there's also 2 different flavors of prefix which depending on the site, they work differently. The first one is sort of a prestige thing where people permanently "brand" a pet with a prefix so that anyone that buys that pet knows who bred it. Personally I'm not too fond of this type of prefix since usually it's permanent after being set by the original owner.
The second type is as I've already said. A few letters the people can use to identify a pet without naming it.
I feel like this would be most useful for people because then if they intend to sell a pet they could prefix it with "sell" or if they plan on sending it to someone they could prefix it "send" or with the name of the person they need to send the pet to. People could use prefixs to mark pets with something that they would recognize without having to set the pets name -- which obviously can't be undone without the Amnesia Potion.
I'm not too sure on how long prefixes should be allowed to be at maximum but anywhere from 3 to 10 characters should be long enough.
Also, when a pet is sent or sold to another user I think it'd be cool if the prefix disappeared. Reason being that prefixes will likely only make sense to the person that set the prefix anyways so having them carry over between owners doesn't really make sense, and they aren't meant to be a permanent thing.
Anyways that's pretty much the whole idea. Feel free, as always, to like/dislike/question/comment, and if you like this idea please leave a message to show your support!
