Does he not offer you something new daily?
Is it supposed to be just one offer for duration of his stay?

The invite information is a little light on these specifics

"An invitation for a Travelling Merchant to visit your land. The next guest in your inn will be a Travelling Merchant. He offers you a random item for trade."

Travelling Merchant has only one item to sell, he won't offer you a new one on the next day. He works just like the Magic Shop on the islands. Invite text is saying about one random item, not a new item every day.
