Sometimes the exploration log is in a separate box to the left, other times, it's connected below the move arrows and portal.

I like it when its separated on the left because I can easily see the text without scrolling down to the bottom of my browser then having to go up again to the map, but I don't know how to control the logs location.

Anyone have a clue how? And why the log changes location in the first place?

When your pets level they get more space on the map, the log moves over to make room for the map to grow.
