Territory Description
founded year 300

Across the river from the Lava Plains and a short canter North, this gorgeous territory consists of a few meadows, and many horses.
Just Southeast from the main clearing, a large floral meadow can be found where many species of flowers and herbs grow. It's a medicine horse's dream!
At the Eastern point of the main clearing resides a large patch of bushes. Inside a small opening can be found. The bushes that form the walls of this den are where the resident medicine horse keeps their stores.
20 minutes Northwest of the main clearing resides Violet's Meadow, a peaceful place with few flowers, but bountiful grass for grazing. A few apple trees sit on the bank of a small stream that runs through the area.

Age:
How long DO horses live?

That depends on a few things, actually! Breed can sometimes play a factor, as well as health.
You can expect an average horse in captivity to live 25-35 years, but a horse in the wild would probably be really lucky to even reach 25 years.


Foals

Any horse under the age of 2 years is still technically a foal.
However, there's more to it than that.
Think of each month of a foal's age being like a single human year, and the behavior will be pretty easily understood. Unlike humans though, foals can typically walk within hours of birth.
With foals over 1.5 years, think of them as teenagers from then until 2 years old, when most reach maturity.

Height:

A horse's height is measured in 'hands' which is a measuring unit of 4 inches. The horse is measured from the ground to the highest point of the withers.

There is a proper way to figure and write out the measurement of a horse.
Example: If a horse measures 60 inches you would divide that number by 4 (since a 'hand' is 4 inches) and get 15, which means the horse is 15 hands tall.
61 inches - 15.1 (when you divide by 4 you will get 15.25, which is an incorrect way to write out the measurement. The .25 means a quarter of a hand, which is 1 because a hand is 4 inches. Therefore you would rewrite the measurement to say 15.1, meaning the horse stands at 15 hands and 1 inch.)

Since a whole hand is 4 inches, the only correct numbers to be placed to the right of the decimal point are 0, 1, 2, 3. (0 inches, 1 inch, 2 inches, and 3 inches).

Height Categories

Miniatures, ponies and horses are usually categorized by their height:

Miniatures - An equine under 38 inches (roughly under 10 hands) is considered to be a mini.
Ponies - An equine under 14.2 hands is considered to be a pony.
Average Horse - Any equine between 14.2 and 16.2 hands are considered average height and good riding horses.
Large Horse - Any equine 16.3 hands and over.

The roleplay wouldn't survive very well without our beloved characters being able to have children, would it?

Generally speaking, the gestation period (pregnancy length) varies from horse to horse, with larger ones having longer pregnancies.
As a general rule, a horse pregnancy is 320-380 days long, or 10.6 - 12.6 months long.

For the sake of the RP though, we've made this simpler with an average of 11 months, but an acceptable range of 10-12 months.
We're choosing to round down because let's face it..... We can't wait to meet our foals!

Blue Butterfly Pea
A bright blue, round flower on a climbing bush.
Rare. Found in partial shade to sunny areas in Spring and early Summer.

Personality: Winter is a quiet horse, although uptight and pretentious. He holds
himself higher than everyone else, but does not go out of his way to undermine others. It isn't that he thinks less of other horses, he just thinks more of himself!

Backstory: Winter was an esteemed purebred Belgiam Warmblood show jumper, with a promising carreer ahead of him, he was taken very well care of. Yet one dim, dreary evening, when the stable hand was home sick and the sun began to drift over the horizon, the stable door slowly opened with a creeeeaaak, and in crept a stranger. They walked up to Winter and gently pet his nose, whispering sweet things into his perked ears. In a hazy blur, his stable door was open and he was being lead out into the open by the hypnotizing human.
Then, the reality hit him, as hard as the yelling from his owner hit his ears as they noticed the horse-napper! Scared and surprised, Winter thrashed and ran right over the burglar and into the wild. Once his haert had stopped racing and his legs grew tired, he realized with a pang of guilt that he could not find his way back to his loving home.

Hickory cheerfully trotted along a well-worn path to a stream for a drink. Her head was slightly lowered as she gazed at the plants that lined the route, casually checking up on new herb growth and making sure the foliage was healthy on her way.
