Looking at the building requirements for the Embassy I understand most of the materials you get from exploring.  But you apparently also need a carpet and a sundial - where do you get those?  Are they rare drops from exploring or do you get them somewhere else?

Some items needed for buildings are materials you need to craft yourself. So you have to craft a sundial and carpet. You should be able to find the scheme for those two pretty easily and cheap in trades or exchange.
