I started yesterday and havent been able to figure out how to sell items, does it need to be done through forums or is there some way to sell them normally

You can sell through the forums (go to the item page and hit sell once you have a buyer) or create an auction. Go to the trading tab> item auction> create lot.
I often have some good pets in my Pound/Giveaways tab. Feel free to ask for one of them.
