There are a few issues with the idea, patterns/color being only one. Here are some ways to make the ideal viable/make me want to support it.
1. Hybrids are not able to breed at all.
2. Something has to be done with genes that do not show up in both species but has the same gene power. I have three recomendations.
1. The dominace depends on the parents, either the mother or the father determines the dominant gene when gene powers are the same (maternal/fraternal inheritence
2. Genes are combined and are the same power leading to stronger genes
3. Genes are combined but percentages/strength is halved for each gene.
If you do either 2 or 3 you end up with these combinations (not showing the halved percentages).
Sharp Teeth Solid Beak or Sharp Teeth Solid Horn or Solid Horn Solid Beak(Both increase bite damage by 15% (it becomes 30%)) This is an argument against number 2, but as we see later a mix of 2 and 3 may be a good idea. The first would show up in a Dragon/Cockatrice/Puma/Lykos/Symurh bred to a Roc/Gryphon. The second would show up when you bred a Dragon/Cockatrice/Puma/Lykos/Symurh bred to a Unicorn and the last would be a Unicorn bred to a Roc/Gryphon.
Weak Jaws Weak Beak or Weak Jaws Small Horn or Small Horn Weak Beak (Both decrease damage by 15% (becomes 30%))The first would show up in a Dragon/Cockatrice/Puma/Lykos/Symurh bred to a Roc/Gryphon. The second would show up when you bred a Dragon/Cockatrice/Puma/Lykos/Symurh bred to a Unicorn and the last would be a Unicorn bred to a Roc/Gryphon.
Blunt Teeth Small Beak or Blunt Teeth Fragile Horn or Fragile Horn Small Beak (Both decrease damage by 30% (becomes 60%)) The first would show up in a Dragon/Cockatrice/Puma/Lykos/Symurh bred to a Roc/Gryphon. The second would show up when you bred a Dragon/Cockatrice/Puma/Lykos/Symurh bred to a Unicorn and the last would be a Unicorn bred to a Roc/Gryphon.

This would only be possible breeding a Puma to a Roc or a Gryphon.
Saber-toothed Magic Horn (Bite Damage is increased by 30%. Increases Critical Strike chance by 10%. You can Blind an opponent. When ever you bite or rush there is a 30% chance your oppenent will miss a turn. Determined oppenents can't be blinded) This would only be possible by breeding a Puma to a Unicorn.
Saber-toothed Poisionous Teeth (Bite Damage is increased by 30%. Increases Critical Strike chance by 10%. The fangs of your pet are covered in poision. When using bite there is a 50% of poisoning the oppenent. Poison can last 1-4 turns and reduces the oppenents hit points by 50%) This would only be possible by breeding a Puma to a Cockatrice. This may be the biggest arguement for halving the percentages though.
Saber-toothed Fire Gland (Bite Damage is increased by 30%. Increases Critical Strike chance by 10%. Required for Fire Strike and Napalm. When combined with Spitting Muscle, replaces Bite attack and increases its damage by 50%. Opponents with Elemental resistance have 30% chance to resist Fire Strike. When combined with Napalm Gland and Spitting Muscle and using Bite, you gain 20% chance to set your opponent on fire. Combustion can last from 1 to 4 turns and reduces opponents hitpoints by 50% every turn. ) This leads to an interesting dilima with multi gene elemental moves, I recomend a randomizer programmed, so you go between bite and firestrike/napalm. This is only possible on a Puma crossed with a Dragon.
Saber Toothed Song of Peace (Bite damage increased by 30%. Increases Critical Strike chance by 10%. Your oppenent can't go beserk in a face-to-face battle. You can automatically win a battle in explore; such a win doesn't give XP and can't be used on the temple guardian. You have two additional points on the tactic map for defence). This is only possible on a Puma crossed with a Symurgh.
Saber Toothed Ice Breath (Bite damage increased by 30%. Increases Cirtical Strike chance by 10%. Replaces Bite attack and increases its damage by 50%. Oppenents with elemental resistance have a 30% chance to resist). Another one that would need a randomizer. Only possible on a Puma crossed to a Lykos.

3. I would not include throdramas or the Ice pets (forget their names) as part of hybridizing.
4. I would use the rule of parental/maternal inheritence when it comes to the color. Assign colors to moms and paterns to dads pr vice-versa
