Anything is worth what somebody is prepared to pay. Nothing more nothing less.

Simple economics. Who's gonna buy 1500 silver with one pumpkin when they can auction it off for thousands more? And who's gonna use yellow pumpkins to buy silly things like transmitters, when they can either get a kami or get rich selling pumpkins?

I paid 300,000 for ten. Ten! But it'll be worth it to have thirty slots in my stable. Until I breed 30 more pets... augh

The problem is you can't BUY those pumpkins for 1,500. You can only SELL them to the NPC for that amount :P (which i don't recommend).

People seem to confuse this simple fact a lot ;)...

Yeah I guess... still... people are unreasonable these days... I have an awesome friend who sent me 60 Hell Pumpkins just to help me get a Hell Drake! (I don't know them in real life.) Kinda cool. Also have any of you had ANY luck finding an Orthrus Dog in explore? I'm using Cloudwing-a G3 "Smart" brain pet- and Strypes- a G2 "Smart" brain pet- and the last six or seven times I explored I found absolutely NO Orthrus Dogs so...

Consider this Kami event an easy one... compared to Carpo's Quest anyway

Part of the reason it's more difficult for you to find Orthus dogs is because you aren't exploring with lv50 pets. They have a certain spawn rate and because the islands you are going to are smaller, that means there's a smaller chance of it spawning since there's less room. Only so many monsters can fit on one island... 

Also, having a Smart gene doesn't really help you. It says that it increases the chance of finding items in quests. You may or may not have noticed, but your pet has a chance of finding random items when you send it off on quests. You can see this in Reports under the Manor tab. It'll say something along the lines of: Your pet brought a trophy from distant travels: (random item here). This is all that the smart gene affects. As far as I know, there's no factor that can affect Orthus dog spawn rate aside from island size.

As someone who sold extra pumpkins, I sold them for what my effort to get them was as I had to buy additional high level pets to have a better chance to find them.  I also ended up building the State Portal Branch to give me more explores per day, which lead to having to buil a bigger stable to hold pets to send there.  Essentially my pumpkin's were priced at what I felt my time and effort warranted and as they sold without an issue they wern't unreasonably priced.

As far as finding the orthos, I did much better once I had several 40+ pets.  Where my 20 some level pets found maybe 1 per island, I got upwards of 3 at times with my 40-50's.  I also used about 25 energy cards per day so did my best to maximize my "hell puppy" finding for the day.

It says for the "Smart" gene 50% chance more of finding a quest item...

A Hell Pumpkin IS a quest item.... it's dropped by the monsters who have it

Mmmh well I think Doodle is right,smart helps you find items in quest, meaning in your ''quest'' tab. A quest item isn't exacly the same thing as a item from a quest in that case. Altough I see your point, it could be a bit misleading ^^

As Wolla said, the description is misleading. The description says word for word: Increases chance of finding item in quests by 50%. Not that it helps find quest items.

Although Hell pumpkins are classified as quest items in your inventory, I wouldn't call them that, since they aren't gained by quests at all. Doom pumpkins, on the other hand, were truly "quest items" since you got them from quests. Still, the Smart gene does nothing for either, because as long as an Othrus dog showed up (and you beat it) and if you completed a gold quest, you had a 100% chance of finding/getting the respective pumpkins. 

Quest items do not mean items gained during quests... The term "Quest Item" is seperate from the daily quests. It is actually referring to the "quests" necessary to complete during site-wide events... Basically items that can be used to complete those tasks. 

Smart is a gene that increase the chances of a pet bringing home an item when they do one of the daily tasks. So you recieve the silver payout, and the increase potential to find any random item (items used in site events are not included unless the quest is one specific to the even). Smart is unrelated to item drops while exploring. The only thing that can increase the drop of an item exploring is the use of an astrologist. 

What is the "squid-thingy?" I'm curious.
