Darn, I should check the pound more often.
Anyways, there can be quite a few explanations for this, here are two:
-- Someone accidentally threw it into the pound, though it's unlikely, it can happen (Happened once to me, where I wasn't paying attention and sent a pet there.)
-- Player quit the game, but decided to pound all their pets, for the new users, or something similar.

It reminds me of hunting through the black market on Ponystars... I used to do it for ages sometimes, refreshing til I found something nice. But a kami, that's amazing!!

Found a level 50 puma in the pound, my first and only level 50 so far. She has no more breedings left, but she has been so great for exploring!

I've now found 1 GP2 and 2 GP3 Unicorns in there already. They were lovingly integrated into my deviant breeding program, hehe. One of them even birthed my first deviant unicorn.
Found 2 lvl50 pets and some lvl30+ pets (all with mediocre stats) as well.
Makes me feel bad about throwing my breeding experiment backwash in there D8
