Ever heard of genetic power? GP, or genetic power, are the green stars on your pet. The pet gains GP from being a descendant of generations of level 50 parents. Each green star gives a 10 point bonus to every stat on your pet, so called "pedigree modifier". This whole green star GP thing is reffered to as heritage.
