Hello Hurricane! Neat username :D
Happy Birthday!
Mroww, you sound like me. I also dislike the city, and I have only been to a handful. I grew up in VT in the middle of nowhere, and like you was compelled to study animals. It led me to studying Anthropology and Environmental Studies (double major) and I have a minor in Wildlife Biology. My passion has and always will be to study and help conserve wolves (by increasing public awareness through outreach, habitat conservation, genetic preservation (ie keeping them distinct from dogs and coyotes) and work to increase knowledge of this essential apex predator. My studies mostly focused on human and game interactions (given that there are no wolves in VT (yet!)). I am an avid hunter for both conservation purposes and feeding my family. Hunting is a very important part of maintaining a health ecosystem in the abscense of apex predators. Sadly, it is often mistaken as cruelty or interpreted as a sport. I would never harm an animal purposefuly and I do feel sadness when I take a life. My Father taught me as his taught him, always ask the animal for permission, treat them with the respect of an equal or greater, and honor their memory and life by giving them dignity and ensuring that their life continues through you. They are not a trophy, nor is it something to gloat about. It is a personal connection between you and the animal. I have a DEEP distrust for people that poach, hunt out of season, trophy hunt, or do not follow game laws. I for one am interested in learning more about social and biological carrying capacities of deer (disease, motor vehicle/deer collisions, overbrowsing, environmental collapse, predator mechanics, population dynamics, and so forth).
I also have a general dislike of people that act like sheep. I love my less than modern way of life and enjoy surviving off of the land through knowledge, hard work, and willpower.
Ahh, sorry.. I tend to rant.
Anywho, as far as BK.... I would check out the FAQs (http://beastkeeper.com/faq), the Player Guides (http://beastkeeper.com/threads/21) and the Help Forum. I strongly recommend building a golem or two in resources that you will need (clay, stone, wood etc). It does require some initial input, but your investment is returned two fold with no extra work. I highly recommend it. I often have a vermillion project going to fuel my research/projects. You don't need to log in for them to work either.
Also, build up your stable and warehouse ASAP. This will increase your capacity to hold more pets and items, which will mean more projects with which to make moolahs.
An Astronomer is a wonderful addition to your buildings as it allows you to increase the chances of finding a certain item while exploring. I normally have mine set to vermillion, energy drinks, mutagen or rainbow jars.
If your an artist I recommend making skins for money as well.
If you have more questions feel free to let me know! :D
