When exploring, I've visited a building a few times and it says somethng like "You've reasearched the xxx gene". What does this actually mean?

Do you remember in the tutorial where you had to use Vermillion to research genes?
Normally researching costs 1 Vermillion + 100 silver per gene, and each pet has 20 genes to research, but this building in explore does one gene for free per visist. Researching a gene is essentially just you revealing what the gene is so you can better plan your breeding with it or use the pet in quests with specific gene requirements.
