when you type in dragon or species your looking for, it doesnt register

Probably you're using search by name judging by the word "typing". Search by name searches only for names and doesn't take into account any other characteristics including species. If you need to limit your search to a particular species, please use extended search functions by clicking "+" button, and check the species that you need.
