On a high tower in the middle of the Beastlands, the Rockeeper looks up as the shadow of a Roc passes overhead. He pays it no notice until he realizes that the Roc has turned and is aiming for the incoming message-scroll Rookery. He doesn't recognize this Roc.
It lands and stares at him. Then it turns and preens an out-of-place feather on its belly. It offers the Rockeeper a chance to look at the name on its leg-collar. Kirisia. Who is that one's Beastkeeper, he wonders.
Kirisia finishes preening, the offers him her other leg, which had a message-scroll strapped to it. He removes the scroll and bows to the bird. It bows back and flies off, returning in the direction from whence it came.
He notes that the scroll is intended for the Registry of Beastkeepers. He should not open it, but he is far too curious.
Dear Registry of Beastkeepers,
I am writing to inform of my return to the Beastlands. I have been absent far too long. Be aware that I am once more active. Please send me the latest newsletter. A mentor would be most kind as well. Thank you.
Altaira, Beastkeeper of Moonwind Forest
The Rockeeper grins and fits the scroll to another Carrier-Roc and sends it to the Registry of Beastkeepers. He's glad that another old-timer has returned from the hinterlands safe. He can't even remember where Moonwind Forest is; he'd have to look it up on his worldmap. He wondered if any of his Rocs even knew where it was.
