I know that you can improve a wild pet's stats depending on the circumstances it's caught in, but is it just the stats or do the actual genetics also improve?

I seem to remember reading Angel's answer to this question that it's only the stats that are affected.

I was afraid of that. Oh well, I guess that's a suggestion I'll be making in the future if I can figure out a good way to work it.
