So, I don't have a squad, never had enough gold coins to get the scroll from the premium market. There is no way to face them without it, correct? I can't have a squad.
Also, for Famine, what is the Pomegranate Tree and where can I find it?

The tree is located on the battlefield. You need to build a military academy to have a squad to send out. Try posting in the wanted ads (some people may be more than happy to sell them to you cheap. If I had one I would give it to you!)
