When I find vermillion I can only use it on the pet that finds it. Will this still happen if all of my pets genetics have been researched?

You can use vermillion on any pet, just make sure that it's active (meaning it doesn't have any statuses - childhood, exploring, fighting etc.). You will be able to research the genetics of busy pets if you build Laboratory level 2.
