I think we should have more options for disposing of items we don't need. I find myself holding items in enormous excess, and they just take up space that I don't really have just yet. Item auctions take way too long if anything is to really sell, and destroying items seems like a huge waste.
What if we could simply sell items to the state store for a reduced price? 50% or less of the original cost for items you can buy, or a few silvers (even just one) for items that can only be found exploring. This would be a fast way for users to get rid of items they don't want or need without the long wait times for a better profit in the auctions.
Or, there could be an item junkyard that people could donate to, sort of a "pound" for items. It would be the same principle, with each user's donation staying in the stacks they dump it in so that other users can come by but not pick up the entire pile that five users have donated to. Got 74 amethysts, but can't sell them in the auctions? Donate them, rather than destroying them, so that users in need of them can get them easier!
To limit the possibility of absurd availability of items, the junkyard could have a 24-hour limit. Any item (or stack of items) donated will only stay for 24 hours before being destroyed automatically by the system. Or shorter, even. I haven't been here long enough to really know item availability, but I seem to have stacks and stacks of gems that I won't be able to use for a long while.
