I leveled up this Unicorn (see below) yesterday to 50 and then bred him to a GP grade 2 female (see below)

The child is grade 1, but I thought it should have been grade 2

Please can you take a look and see if it is a bug and the offspring should be GP grade 2?

Thank You

Initially I thought that yes it seems like it should be GP2 because GP1 at level 50 + GP2 sounds like it should result in a GP2.

However, after looking over the FAQ I couldn't quite pin down this situation. The closest the rules come is:

From the FAQ: If parents have a difference of 1 grade of Genetic Power, the child will get the higher grade if it has inherited 7 or more dominant genes from the parent with higher grade.

Since the parents have a GP difference of 1, it seems like this rule applies.

Because the baby has 7 dominant genes from the father, it inherited GP1.

Admittedly that doesn't really seem FAIR since the father is GP1 + level 50 (which should count as GP2 for breeding anyways).

So I'm going to have to say, not a bug, just a somewhat crappy circumstance that might need to be changed.

Thank you for replying...a bit disappointing  though... I have to admit, I had hoped it was a bug and the grade could be changed

I think it should defiinitely be gp2, so has to be bugged

There's no bug here.

The child would have GP2 from such breeding in 2 cases:
1. Child inherits 7 or more dominant genes from female.
2. Female has level 50.

The quote from FAQ which irrimn posted is exactly about this case. Level 50 and GP aren't equal in the mechanics. GP is inherited while level 50 allows to acquire new GP grade. And to be clear, in case of different GP grades this acquired level can't be higher than the higest grade of the parents, so in any case we won't get GP3 from breeding GP1 with GP2.

i dont understand, since the father is a lvl50 gp 1, then shouldn't the foal have been gp 2 as if they had both been lvl50 gp1s, then the baby would of been gp2 in that instance, so why isn't it in this instance?

emmie1977, this thread case:

1. GP1 x GP2 = GP1 (child didn't inherit 7 genes from GP2)
2. Lvl50 x lower level = no GP gain (in any case, we have one GP grade difference)
3. GP1 + no GP gain =  GP1

GP1 lvl50 x GP1 lvl50:
1. GP1 x GP1 = GP1
2. Lvl50 x Lvl50 = +1 GP grade
3. GP1 + 1 GP grade =  GP2

Ah... I was just about to post about this, since I encountered a similar situation. I didn't understand this either, and am somewhat disappointed to find out that my assumptions were wrong. Perhaps the FAQ should be clarified further, or some such.

So basically it evaluates inheritance and gain differently.

Inheritance is based on genes recieved. In the case that both parents have the same GP the child inherits that automatically (since either way it will be recieving dominant genes from one of the parents). Then if both parents are 50 it adds 1 to the GP.

However, when the parents are 1 apart the most the baby can do is inherit the higher GP, or if both of them are 50, the lower GP parent would inherit +1 for them both being 50, which would result in the same GP as the higher GP parent anyways.

So in order for the breeding in question to result in a GP2 baby it either needs to inherit 7 genes from the GP2 parent or the GP2 parent needs to also be level 50.

Is that right on how the game evaluates it?

Irrimn, it appears that the baby can in fact get the higher GP (if the parents are one apart) as well as a bonus from lv50 x lv50, based on the FAQ now:

  1. CLvl 50 pet GP Grade 2 x Lvl 50 pet GP Grade 1 = Child GP Grade 3 (if there are 7 or more dominant genes from parent with Grade 2) or Grade 2 (if there are less than 7 dominant genes from parent with Grade 2)

irrimn, yes, everything is right.

Daweia, actually it can't. I updated the FAQ, this example was working only before the bug with double Genetic Power acquiring was fixed a couple of weeks ago. Sorry for the confusion. This example contradicts the third rule described in FAQ.

Okay good to know, thanks for the clarification and update, that is much clearer now. :)

I do have another point of clarification to make with this however:

  1. If parents has a difference of 2 or more grades of Genetic Power, the child won't get Genetic Power grade for parents' genes, it can get only 1 Grade for parents' levels.

This makes it sounds though a lv50 GP1 x lv50 GP 3 = a GP 1, is this correct? Or is it a case of you can't get "extra" GP from the higher parent's genes - so GP 1 + 1 (from levels) = GP 2?

Yes, this is correct. If GP difference is more than one level, it won't be inherited at all.
